First, I want to thank you for your comments about my yesterday post. Sorry if I made you cry =.=. Yesterday I couldn’t control my emotions when I watched Time 2007 MC, so I had to write down.
Finally I finished my test today, had free evening to think about my future. I felt crazy. But somehow I’m in translating mood and it clams me down :D . I wanted to translate it long time ago but didn’t have time. Since English is not my first language and I translated from a Vietnamese blog ( the girl is so nice, she collected many facts about Arashi from Chinese website and translate to Vietnamese, when I have time I will translate more ^^ ), I may have mistakes or weird translations. So please correct me, thank you.
About my yesterday post, some people said they didn’t know about Subarashiki Sekai PV story. Yep, it’s a true story :( .
We all know about the dark era of Arashi, when they were unpopular. These are some facts about that area. These facts make me believe that Arashi is a strong group not because they’re so popular now but because they had hard time in the past. They understand the difficult of idol world and overcome it. They’re stable. ^^
The dark era of Arashi (2000 – 2005):
source: akirahajime
- Their CDs were not sold well, so their previous record-label changed investment to W-inds.
- They didn’t have many movies, radio shows, tv shows and their shows all aired only in Kanto region, so Arashi was called “Kanto region artists”.
- There was time that their only fixed show was a 5 minutes radio show.
- McDonald terminated their advertising contract ahead of time with the reason: “changing strategy”
- Their first TV show on FujiTV was “Nama Arashi”, when the rating was only 1.5%, the show was cancelled.
- They used to do mid-night shows on NTV, with the corner that they had to solve complains (C no Arashi) and interview men who like to dress as women ( G no Arashi)… and many other corners (D,G no Arashi). They worked very hard in those corners, but at that time many people said them “not-like-idols”
- Since they worked hard but didn’t get any good results, in 2002 tour, five of them had a serious discussion about Arashi’s future in Ohno’s room.
- 2004 is the darkest era year of Arashi. 2004 Olympic Athens was very famous and it got attention from public, at that time, all television stations spent 70% broadcast time for Olympics news. Many people predicted that year’s 24h TV program will fail, so Arashi was appointed to be the main personality supporters (maybe they thought it would fail so they didn’t care who take this job). Kitagawa Julie accepted that project in the effort of promoting Arashi. When Aiba cried and read the letter he wrote for other members “We will definitely fullfill our dream to be the top”, fans of other groups sneered.
- In 2005, they had plan to do the concert in Yokohama Arena ( 17,000 seats), but had to gave that Arena to KAT-TUN (not debut yet) and moved to Yoyogi (10,000 seats). Arashi also had concerts in small and old arenas, they even fell off stages.
- In 2005, they filmed “Subarashiki Sekai” PV but after that JE didn’t release it because the company was afraid “no one will buy it”. Until now we still don’t have the full PV. JE also didn’t release “One” concert DVD with the same reason, even though Jun insisted them to release it. In the end of 2005, Jun accepted the role in Hana Yori Dango, one of his reasons was it’s the chance for Arashi to release new single. Other members joked “ Thanks to Matsujun’s Hanadan that we get work to do” (in Wish single’s secret talk)
- Arashi said “The priority of Arashi in the company is 8th”.
… since 1999
You own my soul ~.~ . No, I don’t need it back ~.~
“Aiba-kun cried huh. This is really the kind of group that Arashi is. We may be bad at singing, we may be bad at dancing too, and the things we talk about may not be interesting… but. All of it. Everything we do, has feeling in it. With hopes that everyone is enjoying them, wondering if people are enjoying what we do, we’re always thinking of all of you as we perform these concerts.”
~Ninomiya Kazunari, Arashi (Time -2007)

Seriouly, how can I meet them and say I love them so much.
They may not the best singers, dancers,… but they always try hard to make us happy. Everytime I feel down, I always listen to their music. They make me smile, and they make me cry - tears of happiness. They are not only idols, they are important people in my heart now ( besides my family and my friends).
I read about their dark area, the time they had to perform in small arena that they nearly fell off from the stage, the time fans of other groups laugh when they heard Aiba said in 24hTV 2004 ” We will definitely fullfill our dream to be at the top”, the time JE cancelled “Subarashiki sekai ” single because “no one will buy it”,… I cried.
Can you imagine how hard-working they are in 12 years? To come from the small arena to Tokyo Dome and to Kokuritsu, to make their dream come true?
I respect them. I still have to learn many things from them.
When I hear they say “Arigatou” to fans, I really want to say “No, I am the one who should say “Arigatou, Hontou ni arigatou.”
